Hepatitis C is one of the deadliest infections in Canada, there is no vaccine, and its prevalence is closely linked to the epidemic of injection drug use. However, there is a cure, and the World Health Organization as well as the 2017 Indigenous Conference on Viral Hepatitis have proposed eliminating it as a public health threat by 2030.
