Relationships are at the core of home visiting and community outreach programs. In relationships with colleagues or clients - expressing gratitude has been shown to increase positive emotions, improve health, enhance the capacity to respond to adversity and strengthen relationships. Practicing gratitude has also been shown to increase our perceived trustworthiness to others. In this webinar, the effects of gratitude on our brains, bodies, and relationships will be explored. Practical daily ways to build gratitude into one’s everyday life, including professional practice, will also be shared. Strategies for teaching clients about the power of gratitude and how they can incorporate it into their lives and parenting will also be discussed.

Intended audience: Public health nurses delivering the Healthy Babies Healthy Children or Nurse-Family Partnership programs through Ontario’s public health units; family home visitors and program supervisors/managers may also be interested in attending

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Increase awareness of the importance of gratitude and the desire to practice it
  • Identify two or more gratitude practices
