The Institute for Pandemics at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health was formed in spring 2020 in order to tackle some of the most pressing issues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, and to understand how to prevent future pandemics. A central goal of The Institute is to address issues of health equity associated with pandemics. As part of this goal, The Institute, along with its lead donors, the Vohra Miller Foundation, is sponsoring a lecture series that will feature preeminent scholars, policymakers, advocates, and others who are engaging in the science of pandemic-related health inequities, other critical public health issues, and in the translation of that science.
The third-annual Vohra Miller Lectures in Critical Public Health Issues in collaboration with the Institute for Pandemics puts a spotlight on the media’s handling of equity issues, including health equity, during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. What are the forces that shape media coverage of equity matters? What does the future of the media landscape hold and, what are the possibilities?
Featured panelists Denise Balkissoon, Dr. Hadiya Roderique, Tai Huynh, and Tayo Bero will share their perspectives through a panel discussion to address topics posed by host and moderator, Professor Arjumand Siddiqi. Following the discussion, guests will have the opportunity to ask the panelists their questions.
