PHO Webinar: Anti-Black Racism: Ways forward for public health

This webinar will lay the foundation for much needed work within public health to confront Anti-Black Racism. It will provide participants the opportunity to reflect on how they may have upheld and contributed to an unjust system through action or inaction, as well as illustrating pathways to intervene in addressing Anti-Black Racism. The session will discuss public health roles for racial health equity action and demonstrate organizational strategies for addressing Anti-Black Racism. Overall, the presenters hope to create space for reflection, criticality and commitment to action that goes beyond acknowledgements.

Intended audience: Public health unit health staff, managers and leaders within public health, invited key stakeholders (e.g. Community Health Centers, Ontario Public Health Association, National Collaborating Centre on Determinants of Health, Association of local public health agencies, Health Equity Impact Assessment Champions, Health Equity researchers and academics).

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Reflect on Anti-Black Racism as a driving force across the social determinants of health.
  2. Discuss public health roles for racial health equity action.
  3. Demonstrate organizational strategies for addressing Anti-Black Racism.
