HIV self-testing: Putting it into practice

An exciting development in our efforts to reach people living with undiagnosed HIV has been the licensing of the first HIV self-test in Canada in November 2020. Self-testing is a tool that has the potential to reach people who are not accessing HIV testing through traditional pathways, including people who have never tested before. Self-testing is also a convenient option for people who test regularly.

Despite the promise of HIV self-testing, questions remain regarding access, feasibility and linkage to services, and the role of community-based organizations in supporting the uptake of these tests.

In this webinar, we will learn more from those who are currently engaged in self-testing pilot projects in Canada and explore the implications of this technology in Canada’s response to HIV. Moderator: Mallory Harrigan, Knowledge Specialist, HIV Testing, CATIE

Speakers:
  • Sean B. Rourke, REACH Nexus and St. Michael’s Hospital
  • Chris Draenos, Community-Based Research Centre
  • Patrick O’Byrne, University of Ottawa
  • Alexandra Musten, Ontario HIV Treatment Network
