Quash: a behavioural approach to youth vaping and smoking cessation

In recent years, the upsurge in vaping among adolescents and vaping-related illnesses has elicited a call to action for more education, regulation and cessation interventions for youth. Smoking and vaping among youth is an undeniable priority that warrants immediate action.

This webinar describes the development, features and functionality of Quash, an interactive virtual smoking/vaping cessation program, powered by the Lung Health Foundation. This program was co-developed with youth for youth, to equip those aged 14-19 years with the knowledge and tools to quit smoking and/or vaping; understanding that every individual has a unique experience when quitting. In addition to discussing the development of Quash, an overview of the three online components of the program will be presented: the application, the website and the e-module training program for adult allies.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Summarize the current landscape of vaping and smoking among Canadian youth.
  • Describe the research, development and co-design of the Quash program.
  • Describe the overview of the Quash program, including key features and intended outcomes.
  • Discuss opportunities in using the Quash program in combination with other existing programming.
