Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that affects the lungs and other organs, and it has afflicted humanity since prehistoric times. While drugs to prevent and treat TB have been widely available for many years, TB is still responsible for untold suffering, disease, and death all over the world today. WHO estimates that about 10 million people develop TB disease each year and close to 1.4 million die from it. While the overall burden of TB is low in Canada, there is a higher prevalence in certain geographic regions and populations.
To mark World TB Day on March 24, CADTH is hosting an Evidence-to-Action event to discuss TB and the efforts to eradicate this disease in Canada and internationally.
During the event, CADTH’s recent work on TB — including a new online platform where health care decision-makers can access the latest evidence from CADTH on TB prevention, identification, diagnosis, treatment, and management — will also be introduced.
